"To succeed in your mission, you must have single-minded devotion to your goal"
-A P J Abdul Kalam "Missile Man" as he was fondly addressed as. "The 11 th President of India" was a visionary, a revolutionary, and a knowledgeable human being who lived for his country. He showed every one of us what a knowledgeable person could achieve by becoming the most loved and the chosen first citizen of the largest democracy in the world by cutting across the political lines and religion. He dedicated his entire life till his death for the upbringing of a potential nation. He showed us all that "Knowledge is Power."
When asked what he would want to be remembered as from the various sobriquets he had earned in his lifetime, he had no qualms in choosing to answer that he wanted to remain in everybody's heart as a teacher. Every one of us is blessed to teach something or the other in our life and at the same time be flexible to become a student whenever knowledge is being imparted. We should all take a leaf out of Dr. Kalam's life to be a humble, gentle, and a noble professional imparting knowledge or treatment.
We, at the Indian Society of Periodontology, are proud to be imparting knowledge to the different segments of the society. We have successfully joined hands with the Indian Society of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry in conducting the national symposium on periodontal problems in pediatric patients on July 18 and 19, 2015, at Nagpur.
The training of teachers program conducted every year by the society for the members finds a mention in the "letters to the editor" in the British Dental Journal lauding the efforts of the society to educate the teachers. The two programs were successfully conducted at Vijayawada and Vadodara in the months of June and July 2015 where the members took advantage of the programs.
The oral hygiene day is also being celebrated with zeal around the country as I pen down this secretarial message.
The organizers of the 40 th national conference also are toiling hard to make the event a memorable one at Hyderabad. The enthusiasm by the associate and life members to present their work is very much evident from the number of abstracts pouring in.
Wishing everyone a Happy Oral Hygiene Day.
You have to dream before your dreams come true.
-A P J Abdul Kalam
