National symposium on periodontal diseases in pediatric patients organized
The VSPM Dental College and Research Center in collaboration with Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP), Nagpur Study Group, organized first of its kind " National Symposium on Periodontal Diseases in Pediatric Patients." The two-day symposium was held under the aegis of ISP and Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD). The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. Rahul Hegde, Executive Committee Member, Dental Council of India, New Delhi. Dr. Hegde appreciated the efforts to conduct such a novel interdisciplinary symposium which will benefit members of both the specialties. Dr. Rahul Hegde was felicitated at the hands of Dr. Usha Radke, Dean, VSPM Dental College and Research Center, Nagpur, during the inaugural function. Dr. Usha Radke welcomed the guests and all the delegates to the symposium and assured all the possible support in conducting such scientific events. Dr. Ramesh Kohad, Chairman, ISP Nagpur Study Group, gave a brief of the ISP and the program. A 2 minute silence was observed to pay homage to Dr. Lalit Guglani, a founder member of the society.
A galaxy of eminent speakers from all over the country, Dr. C. D. Dwarkanath, Bengaluru, Dr. T. K. Pal, Calcutta, Dr. Arvind Shetty, Mumbai, Dr. I. K. Pandit, Yamunanagar, Dr. Ullal Anand Nayak, Jaipur, Dr. Vishwas Chaugule, Pune, and Dr. Narendra Chandranee, Nagpur, enlightened the delegates on the recent know-how on the periodontal diseases in children and adolescents. The early identification of such condition was stressed to be an important key in successful management.
A Perio-Pedo quiz was also organized on the occasion which was won by the postgraduate students of M. G. V. Dental College, Nashik, whilst the teams of CDCRI, Rajnandgaon, and VSPM Dental College, Nagpur, bagged the second and third positions, respectively. Dr. Vishal Kher and Dr. Kavita Hotwani conducted the quiz, while Dr. Sudhindra Baliga and Dr. Mangesh Phadnaik were the moderators.
Gracing the occasion were Dr. Biju Thomas, President-ISP, Dr. Pravin Kudva, President-Elect ISP, Dr. I. K. Pandit, President, ISPPD, and Dr. H. Kamblimath, Honorable General Secretary, ISPPD. These dignitaries of the national specialty society were felicitated at the hands of Dr. Abhay Kolte, Program Coordinator, and Dr. R. M. Kohad. Dr. Rajshree Kolte, Dr. Surekha Rathod, Dr. Tushar Shrirao, Dr. Girish Bhutada, Dr. Tony Shori, Dr. Dhawal Modi, Dr. Vaibhav Karemore, Dr. Kamal Mankar, and Dr. Vivek Thombre worked for the success of the program. The program was a huge success with over 200 registered delegates participating in the deliberations.
