[INLINE:1]

Greetings to all my fellow budding Periodontists and my teammates

It is a honour to be invested with a privilege of being the president of the largest periodontology society in the world. Periodontology as a profession has undergone a 'sea-change of sorts' over the last couple of years. Personal protection and use of barrier techniques with adequate social distancing have become todays norm. With the covid pandemic staring down on us, it has been difficult to conduct the scientific programs usually a forte for a organization like the Indian Society of Periodontology. The cancellation of all academic activity organized by ISP in the year 2020, led us to be innovative with organizing conferences/conventions in 2021. The use of online methods for conducting these programmes was introduced this year. However, there is only so much that online conferences/conventions can accomplish. Virtual paper and poster presentations cannot substitute physical paper and poster presentations for students. Most of us can't wait to get back to real physical presence at these scientific programmes rather than virtual attendance. With a significant portion of our population already vaccinated, this dream could soon be a reality.

I, as president of periodontology, have a vision for the conduct of copious scientific programs and activity relating to the ISP. Programs such as 'colloquium,''parichay' 'integrate','sameeksha'and undergraduate conference related to periodontology had to be discontinued in the preceding year owing to the pandemic. Programs such as 'teachers-training programs' have also not been held in last few years. I plan to restart these programs in right earnest with full dynamism and exuberance along with my contempories and associate partners.

Besides this, I would also like to resourse a post-graduate exchange program at both the national and international level. The international exchange program would be in collaboration with universities in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Malaysia to name a few.The Interdisciplinary interaction with other speciality of Dentistry will be taken up in agreement with the other speciality.

In addition to this I also would like to propose best Teacher awards and help fund the ten bestpost-graduate studies. Multicentric studies will also be encouraged during my tenure as president. I would like to add that we as a society need to come out with a consensus report on 'preterm low birth weight and periodontitis interrelationship' In spite of over 25 years of research on this topic, we as a fraternity in India are yet to speak in a common voice relating to this topic.

With the 2017 Classification of Periodontal Diseases becoming increasingly relevant, I also propose to have a consensus report on this topic, on Indian prospective on lines with those given by the British Society of Periodontology. This new classification could well be the cornerstone of future research. I hope our consensus report will help simplify this classification for the understanding of future students and us as a fraternity in general.

I, as a president cannot be omnipresent and am optimistic that my contempories and colleagues will work Indefatigable towards the Progress of our Indian society of Periodontology.
